U. S. Border Patrol agent, Joseph Scarfona, of the San Diego Sector, offers fruit to Karin Ixzel Onofre Salinas, 6, of San Martin, Tlaxcala, Mexico, who agents apprehended along with others illegal immigrants including relatives. Karin, sipping on water provided to her by, Borstar agent, Leon Stroud, walked the West Desert on the Tohono O'odham Reservation for three days in temperatures exceeding 110 degrees on her trip with her aunt to Phoenix. The aunt hoped to travel with the girl to New York where the girl's mother lives. A smuggler received $300 to $400 to guide the girl and payment from all in the group.
