Karin Ixzel Onofre Salinas, 6, of San Martin, Tlaxcala, Mexico, savors an apple given to her by a U. S. Border Patrol agent after her apprehension on June 25 north of Route 86 near milepost 127 on the Tohono O'odham Reservation. The girl walked for three days along with relatives through the West Desert in temperatures exceeding 110 degrees. Her aunt had hoped to take her to Phoenix, then New York, where the girl's mother lives.
