KIDS IN DESERT

U. S. Border Patrol agents prepare to transport a group of illegal immigrants from Mexico to a shaded area for processing, then a trip to Tucson and deportation. The group walked for three days in temperatures exceeding 110 degrees before a U. S. Customs helicopter spotted them near milepost 127 north of Route 86 on the Tohono O'odhan Reservation. The group included a 6-year-old girl who was to be taken by her aunt to New York where the girl's mother lives. (PHOTO: NORMA JEAN GARGASZ)
